The Great Gatsby at The Muckenthaler

The Muckenthaler Mansion is a beautiful 1920's mansion located right here in Fullerton. It's full of art deco charm and makes a perfect setting for any wedding, but right now we're yearning for an art deco love fest! With The Great Gatsby film coming out this December we took a cue from the movie and created a inspiration board for our own roaring 20's wedding.

With all of the 20's architecture and detailing a Gatsby style affair is as alluring as the jazz lifestyle of yesterday. The property is even home to the remnants of a speakeasy (hidden near the front door).

To achieve a look of 20's glam at the mansion or anywhere else, focus on the small details. Details make a huge difference in the mood and style of your event especially when you have a particular theme you're going for. A simple and effective way to incorporate an art deco theme is to choose a font of the time period for all of your printed items, from your invites to your menu cards. Like this great poster for the Muckenthaler's October specials.

Art Deco is characterized by the use of materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, lacquer, and chrome So try choosing a metallic color scheme for a luxurious 20's feel and add a little glamor with metal details, like this vase from Z Gallerie, and polished chargers to really set the table in style.

Another strong style component was the use of Exotic materials such as shark skin, and zebra skin, so try incorporating some "exotic" materials as well. Have your florist add feathers to your florals, and forgo the veil and wear a feather hairpiece instead.
With all of these motifs that are typical of art deco, you'll be sure to have one of "those gleaming, dazzling parties of his"- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby
